Hepner Homes won Individual Home from $3 million up to $4 million for its Sunshine Coast Project at Chevallum, putting the local builder alongside some of Queensland’s most accomplished residential construction businesses.
The awards were presented at Novotel Twin Waters on Friday, 21 August, celebrating the people and businesses behind some extraordinary construction projects across the Sunshine Coast.
But for Hepner Homes, there is another part of this story worth telling.
They come from Woodford.
A local family business taking on the best
Hepner Homes operates from 72 Archer Street in the heart of Woodford.
The company describes itself as a local trusted builder and says it has been bringing homes to life since 2003. Its own clients have described it as a family-based business, while the Hepner name has become a familiar one across Woodford and the surrounding region.
That makes the award particularly special.
This isn’t a giant national project-home company backed by an enormous corporate machine.
It’s a local building business that has grown its reputation home by home, client by client and referral by referral — and has now walked onto a major Sunshine Coast awards stage and come home a winner.
For a business with its roots firmly planted in a country town like Woodford, that’s something the wider community can be proud of too.
The reaction tells another story
Perhaps the most revealing part came after Hepner Homes announced the result.
The congratulations poured in.
Employees. Subcontractors. Suppliers. Friends. Other local businesses.
And, most importantly, the people who have actually lived in Hepner-built homes.
Among the dozens of messages were past clients talking about how much they still love their homes.
“You build beautiful homes, not houses. We love ours.”
Another family said Hepner Homes had already built two homes for them — and there was no question who they would choose to build their third.
Others spoke about homes built years earlier that they still love today.
That’s a pretty powerful endorsement.
Reputation built the old-fashioned way
Hepner Homes itself says repeat business and referrals are incredibly important to the company because word of mouth remains one of the best recommendations a business can receive.
And looking at the reaction to this award, those aren’t just marketing words.
There is a noticeable sense of ownership around this win.
People aren’t merely congratulating a builder.
They’re congratulating their builder.
Their friends. Their local business. The people who designed and constructed the place they call home.
That distinction matters.
A team win
Hepner Homes was also quick to share the recognition.
In announcing the award, the company thanked the employees, subcontractors and suppliers who helped bring the winning home to life.
The company specifically acknowledged the work that starts long before construction — consultation, drafting, coordinating and scheduling — as well as the craftsmanship of the trades and suppliers who ultimately turn a set of plans into a finished home.
At this level of residential construction, there are an enormous number of moving parts.
Getting all of them right takes a team.
And this time, that teamwork has been recognised by the industry.
From Woodford to Chevallum
The winning project itself was at Chevallum on the Sunshine Coast, and Master Builders Queensland formally named Hepner Homes as the winner of the $3 million to $4 million Individual Home category.
It’s an impressive result in a region renowned for high-end residential construction.
But there’s something particularly satisfying about seeing Woodford attached to the story.
A local family business.
More than two decades of building.
A network of employees, trades and suppliers.
Clients who keep coming back.
And now another major industry award to put on the shelf.
More than an award
Master Builders Queensland describes its awards as being about the people behind the projects — the craftspeople, problem-solvers and teams who turn ideas on a page into places where people live their lives.
It’s difficult to think of a better description of what this particular win represents.
The trophy recognises one exceptional home.
The reaction to it recognises something that takes much longer to build.
A reputation.
And in Woodford, that reputation has been under construction for more than 20 years.
Congratulations to Mitch Hepner and the entire Hepner Homes team — a brilliant result for a local family builder, and a pretty great result for Woodford too.
